| Our recent drug "take-back" event was responsible for getting 1144 vials, boxes, bottles and vaious other containers of expired and otherwise unwanted prescription medications out of the community and secured for safe disposal by incineration. Thanks to all those who paated, these powerful chemicals are no longer a threat to our environment.

Jagger Lane is a one block street in the heart of Southampton Village. On the south side of the street, about a quarter of the way in from Windmill Lane is a small, unobtrusive brick building with neatly manicured hedges and an old fashioned wooden sign over the door. Frankly, if you weren't looking for it, you could easily pass right by without ever noticing. Yet, for many of the local residents, this is arguably, one of the most important buildings in town. This is Southrifty Drug, Southampton's "neighborhood pharmacy".
In a world where the line between a drug store and a gas station mini-mart is increasingly blurred, Southrifty Drug has steadfastly kept its focus on what they consider important...the health and well-being of it's customers. That's why there are just three specialty items in the store that are not directly related to health-care;

(a book about local families and some of their favorite recipes). "Everything else in the store has to do with your health.", says Bob Grisnik, the owner and supervising pharmacist at Southrifty.
And it's true. If you're looking for magazines, hair dye or Halloween candy, you'll have to look elsewhere. Just about 100 % of the shelf space is devoted to health-care items. "We're serious about being a real pharmacy", he says, "It's a full time job and we don't have the time, or the inclination to peddle knickknacks".

Southrifty Drug is a small, neighborhood pharmacy with limited shelf space, and we have to be very selective about which over-the-counter items we carry. As a result you'll find a no nonsense concentration of very effective, high quality and useful products on our shelves. In the waiting area nestled in one corner of the store, you'll find a comfortable banquette, numerous health related pamphlets, several containers with accurate dosing measuring spoons, medicine droppers and pill dispensers, and a small vase filled with miniature American flags provided by the Southampton VFW, Dune Post #7009. All are free.
Bob figures that he gives away about two gross of those flags a years. Like many people in small town America, Bob is quietly, but deeply patriotic, and as you browse through the site, you'll find that he doesn't just talk the talk; he walks the walk. |
